After a Test battle for almost two years among 9 teams, the first edition of the ICC World Test Championship came to an end with New Zealand emerging as the champions. The Kane Williamson-led side defeated India by 8 wickets in the final game, with an astonishing bowling show by Kyle Jamieson.

The Kiwi pacer picked 7 wickets for 61 runs in the match, crushing the Indian batting order. With mere a 139-run target in the 2nd innings, Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor smashed unbeaten 52 and 47 run-knocks respectively along with a 96-run stand to defeat India by 8 wickets.

The ICC World Test Championship witnessed many bilateral Test series among the 9 participating teams during the course of two years. India and New Zealand bagged the 1st and 2nd spot in the points table with the highest PCT (Points of Percentage) than other teams and qualified for the final.

There are many batsmen who played several incredible knocks during the tournament and bagged the spotlight with their batting. Here we take a glance at the top 5 highest run-scorers in ICC World Test Championship after the conclusion of the tournament.

Ajinkya Rahane- 1159

Ajinkya Rahane finished as the 5th highest run-scorer in ICC World Test Championship. The right-handed batsman was also India’s highest run-getter in the tournament with 1159 runs in 30 innings. Rahane was part of all the 18 games that the Indian team played during the course of the tournament.

Ben Stokes – 1334

England cricketer Ben Stokes was one of the best performers during ICC World Test Championship. The left-handed batsman emerged as the 4th highest run-scorer in the tournament with 1334 runs in 32 innings. He played for England in 17 matches during the tournament.

The 30-year-old cricketer had an average of 46 and smacked 4 hundreds and 6 fifties. His highest score was 176, which came in a match against West Indies in July 2020.

Steve Smith- 1341

Steve Smith ended as the 3rd highest run-scorer in ICC World Test Championship. Smith played a total of 13 matches during the tournament. The Australian batsman piled up 1341 runs in 22 innings at an average of 63.85.

The right-handed batsman also smashed 4 centuries and 7 half-centuries during the tournament. Smith also scored a double century in the tournament- a 211-run knock against England during The Ashes 2019. It was also his highest knock in the tournament.

Joe Root- 1660

Joe Root emerged as the 2nd highest run-getter in ICC World Test Championship. The England skipper scored 1660 runs in 37 innings during the tournament, after playing 20 matches for England. The right-hander had an average of 47.42. Root smacked 3 centuries and 8 half-centuries during the tournament.

Out of his 3 tons, two were double centuries. Root’s highest knock in the tournament arrived against Sri Lanka in January 2021, when he hit 228 runs.

Marnus Labuschagne- 1675

Australian batsman Marnus Labuschagne finished as the highest run-scorer in ICC World Test Championship. Labuschagne played a total of 13 matches for Australia during the tournament. The right-handed batsman smashed 1675 runs in 23 innings at a spectacular average of 72.82.

He also hit the most number of centuries in the tournament with 5 tons. Moreover, the 27-year-old also smashed 9 half-centuries. His highest score in the tournament was a double century of 215 runs, which he smashed in a match against New Zealand in January 2020.
