In a massive recent development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced an 18-member squad for the upcoming India vs England ODI series. There is some great news for the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Krunal Pandya and Prasidh Krishna as the trio have been handed their maiden call-ups in the Indian ODI team.
India Squad for ODIs: Suryakumar, Krunal and Prasidh Krishna receive maiden call-ups
The All-India Senior Selection Committee led by Chetan Sharma have finally rewarded the trio of Suryakumar Yadav, Krunal Pandya and Prasidh Krishna for their consistent performances in the domestic circuit. Suryakumar has been knocking the doors of international cricket for quite a while now with some tremendous consistent performances across the three formats and he was rewarded with his maiden T20I call-up for the ongoing England vs India T20I series. He played an amazing innings of 57 runs off 31 balls in the 4th T20I to announce a stupendous arrival in international cricket.
In the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy, Krunal contributed amazingly well for Baroda both with the bat and ball. In 5 matches, the left-hander scored 388 runs at an average of 129.33 that included 2 centuries. Karnataka pacer Prasidh Krishna finished the tournament with a total of 14 wickets from 7 matches with an economy of 5.44. However, the duo of Prithvi Shaw and Devdutt Padikkal who were the leading run-getters of the tournament have not been included in the Indian squad.
The likes of Manish Pandey, Mayank Agarwal, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja are the names missing from the ODI team that was picked for the Australia tour. In an interesting fact, both KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant have been listed as the wicket-keepers in the squad released by the BCCI and thus, it will be a tough choice for the Men in Blue to chose the first-choice keeper option.
