Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Virat Kohli stole the limelight during the franchise’s unbox event ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He reacted to fans calling him King, saying that he feels embarrassed about it.
Virat Kohli enjoys a huge stardom all across the world. Wherever he goes there are just the chants of “King Kohli”. This is because of what he has achieved in the game of cricket for the Indian team and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL.
Virat Kohli arguably is the best batter of modern-day cricket. He has achieved everything in his career and even if he hangs his boots now, he would go down as the finest player in the history of the game. But with the kind of fitness, he possesses, it’s fair to say that he still has many years of cricket left in him.
Virat Kohli has become a brand all over the world and is rated among the top athletes in the globe. The crowd gets mad wherever he goes and this was quite evident during the unboxing event of the franchise on Tuesday (19th March).
The crowd didn’t let him speak and all that was audible was the chants of “Kohli Kohli”. The fans in the stands of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium went berserk as he took center stage. After the franchise unveiled their jersey, he was asked “How’s the King feeling?”
Hearing this crowd eruptted and chanted ‘Kohli, Kohli’. But the batter urged the fans to calm down as the team had to travel to Chennai for the first fixture of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He stated:
“Guys, we need to get to Chennai pretty quickly, we have a chartered flight so we don’t have much time. Firstly, you need to stop calling me that word (king). I was telling Faf, I feel embarrassed everywhere when you call me that and they react like that so please just call me Virat from now on. Don’t use that word, it’s very embarrassing for me,”
