Five-time champions Mumbai Indians posted an emotional message for Rohit Sharma after his stint as a captain came to an end in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They recalled all the positive lessons that he taught and expressed their gratitude towards him.
Rohit Sharma’s 10-year-long stint as the captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI) came to an end after the franchise named Hardik Pandya as captain of the team on Friday (15th December). This marked the end of an era as whatever franchise is today, it is because of Rohit.
A young boy took charge of the team in 2013 and then changed the dynamics of the Mumbai Indians. Taking the baton from Ricky Ponting midway in 2013, he guided the team to the IPL trophy in the very first year and then didn’t look back as he made the team most successful in the tournament.
Rohit Sharma took the team to title victories in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020 and apart from that also won one Champions League title as well. His legacy as captain in the tournament will be unmatched as he was the first leader to win 5 titles and he did that in just 10 years.
“Ro, In 2013 you took over as captain of MI. You asked us to Believe. In victories & defeats, you asked us to Smile. 10 years & 6 trophies later, here we are. Our forever captain your legacy will be etched in Blue & Gold. Thank you, Captain RO.”
