Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa heaped rich praise on Rohit Sharma ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He said that the Indian captain has picked up a lot of nuances from MS Dhoni and is a very self-assured person.
Rohit Sharma has been one of the finest batters to have played for India as well as in the Indian Premier League. In the last decade, he has become the backbone of the Indian team and is even leading the side incredibly well.
Apart from his heroics for the Indian team, Rohit Sharma has been a stalwart in the IPL. He started his career with Deccan Chargers and then became an integral part of the Mumbai Indians before taking the leadership of the team in 2013. Ever since he took on the leadership, he became a different beast altogether.
Rohit Sharma guided Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles and is also the leading run-getter for the Team in the IPL. He is one of the main reasons behind the dominance of the team in the league. Apart from that he also guided his side to the Champions League as a win as well.
The upcoming IPL 2024 will see Rohit Sharma playing as a pure batter for Mumbai Indians. He was removed as skipper of the franchise, who handed the leadership to Hardik Pandya. The tournament will begin on 22nd March and all the eyes will be on the senior batter.
Robin Uthappa while talking about the legacy of Rohit Sharma in the IPL stated that the former Mumbai Indians skipper is a self-assured person and nonchalance is the way of life for him.
Robin Uthappa added that Rohit Sharma learned a lot from MS Dhoni and then added a touch of his own to that. Speaking to Jio Cinema, he explained:
“We must also remember that he had been a part of the Deccan Chargers that had won the IPL in 2009. He had a feeling of what it takes to win. He was an integral part of that side as well. One thing about Rohit is that he’s a very self-assured person. Nonchalance is a way of life for him.
“As a leader, he picked up a lot of nuances from MS (Dhoni). But he’s added his own touch to it and made it his own. He’s not scared to show his emotions on the field. It’s very unique to Rohit. It’s only something that he does.”
Rohit Sharma is very intense, yet very casual – Zaheer Khan
Zaheer Khan, who was also present during the discussion, also that Rohit Sharma is intense but looks very casual. He added that the Indian captain has a good tactical understanding of the game. He explained:
“Rohit is very intense, yet very casual. Being casual makes him approachable. But he’s very intense when he’s going about his business and preparing. That’s something that works in his favour brilliantly. He has a very good tactical understanding of the game.”
