The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah gave a massive update about Mohammed Shami’s fitness ahead of the South Africa Tests. While speaking to the reporters, he revealed that the pacer is likely to be fit for the two-Test series against Proteas.
“Shami should be fit for the South Africa series,” Jay Shah said while talking to reporters on the sidelines of the WPL 2024 Auction.
When BCCI announced the squad for the series against South Africa. His name didn’t feature in the white-ball squads but he was included in the Test squad. A star was in front of his name, which revealed that the pacer is currently undergoing medical treatment and his availability is subject to fitness.
Mohammed Shami currently has been undergoing rehabilitation at NCA to attain full fitness ahead of the South Africa series. He will be crucial for the team going into the series. If India have to fancy their chances of winning their first Test series on South African soil, he will have to play a huge role.
India will be playing a three-match T20I and ODI series against South Africa first. After that two-match Test series will be played from 26th December to 7th January.
Mohammed Shami ended World Cup 2023 as the leading wicket-taker
Mohammed Shami was one of the main reasons behind India’s success in the ICC World Cup 2023. He ended the tournament as the leading wicket-taker with 24 wickets to his name. The pacer didn’t play the first few games due to team combination but entered into the XI once Hardik Pandya was injured.
