The Sunrisers Hyderabad were on a winning streak for their past five matches, and their frame was around to proceed even against the Gujarat Titans within the 40th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Umran Malik’s thrilling five-wicket haul had helped them to get an upper hand over the opposition players. But a few insane hitting from Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan helped Gujarat Titans pull off a heist in the end. By the by, Umran’s spell didn’t go unnoticed as he deservedly won the Player of the Match award.
Within the eighth over, he first came into the attack and delivered a 144 kph ball to expel Shubman Gill to allow his team their first breakthrough and break the opening partnership of 69 runs. Umran returned within the 10th over and bounced out the Captain Hardik Pandya, sending him off the field early within the innings. Bowling the 14th over of the game, he castled Wriddhiman Saha off a 153 kph yorker.
Saha had been holding the game strong for Gujarat Titans, but Umran had the last laugh as he scalped his third wicket. Coming out to bowl his final over of the spell, he outcasted David Miller by striking at a speed of almost 147 kph and hitting the stumps, once again. He scalped his maiden five-wicket haul when he picked up Abhinav Manohar on his final ball of the spell and it was bowled, again! He was smashing stumps for fun on the day leaving his bowling coach Dale Steyn delighted.
