Former Indian Cricketer Rohan Gavaskar said that if Star Indian Batter and Vice Captain of Team India KL Rahul continues to bat in same manner as he did in the Asia Cup Group Stage Matches then the opening combination might be changed.
India defeated Hong Kong by 40 Runs at Dubai International Stadium on 31st August, but KL Rahul us still struggling for the touch. He scored 36 from 39 balls. He also played 16 dot balls. He hit two sixes in the Innings.
He dismissed for Golden duck in the previous game against Pakistan.
“Look, you know, I think he’s coming back from a long, long injury layoff. He didn’t get too many opportunities in the West Indies (didn’t travel due to Covid-19). And I think if you look at Wednesday’s (yesterday’s) innings in isolation. And you look at you say, ‘okay listen, 36 of 39 deliveries against Hong Kong seems to be slow’.”
“But I think in this case the team management would have said to him, ‘this is a bit of a free hit’. You know, you know 999 times out of 1000, you’re going to win against Hong Kong. So, this a bit of a free hit, saying ‘KL, take your time out there, get set, get a feel out there in the middle. And then we’ll see how it goes’,” said Gavaskar on the ‘Sports Over The Top’ show on Sports18.
Rahul is playing for India after ong time. He missed so many series in 2022 due to Injury and he also got covid POSTIVE as well.
“If he continues to bat like he did in Wednesday’s (yesterday’s) game. Then I think, you know, we might see a bit of a change. But I think (on) Wednesday (yesterday) there might have been some suggestion from the team management. With saying don’t worry about strike rate for this particular game. Just worry about spending time in the middle, getting some runs, getting some confidence. Because we all know a confident KL Rahul is an asset to the side,” added Gavaskar.
India now qualified for Super rs and they will face arch rivals Pakistan once again on Sunday.
