The BCCI is all set to celebrate Jay Shah’s big leap to the top of cricket administration. Shah, who recently became the ICC chairman, will be honored at the board’s Special General Meeting (SGM) on January 12. While Shah won’t be attending the meeting, the BCCI plans to make his felicitation a major highlight of the event.
Jay Shah’s Journey to ICC Chairman
Jay Shah took over as the ICC chairman on December 1, 2024, bringing in years of cricket administration experience. His cricket journey started with the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) in 2009, and he has since become one of the most powerful figures in world cricket.
During his time as BCCI secretary, Shah oversaw some major milestones. He played a big role in the development of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the world’s largest cricket venue. He also helped India host the entire 2023 Cricket World Cup.
Big Decisions Under Shah’s Leadership
Since taking charge at the ICC, Shah has already made some big calls. One of the most talked-about decisions was resolving the hosting rights for the 2025 Champions Trophy. The ICC confirmed that Pakistan will host the tournament, but any matches between India and Pakistan will be played at a neutral venue.
“The ICC Board has approved that matches between India and Pakistan during ICC events from 2024 to 2027 will be played at neutral venues,” said a statement from the ICC.
The SGM will also see elections for the BCCI’s new secretary and treasurer. These roles became vacant after Jay Shah’s promotion to ICC chairman and Ashish Shelar’s election as an MLA in Maharashtra.
