In the wake of a heartbreaking stampede that claimed 11 lives during RCB’s IPL 2025 celebration in Chinnaswamy Stadium, the BCCI, and the IPL Governing Council are set to take major action.
The horrifying incident took place outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4 during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) celebration of their first-ever IPL trophy triumph.
The joyous celebration turned into a nightmare as an overwhelming crowd of nearly 2.5 lakh fans gathered in and around the M Chinnaswamy Stadium to celebrate with their RCB heroes, which led to chaos and a deadly stampede. The incident left 11 dead and 56 people injured.

Now, the BCCI is all set to discuss and formulate the proper guidelines for IPL victory celebrations to ensure such a tragedy never happens again. This urgent matter will be a key agenda item during the BCCI’s 28th Apex Council Meeting on June 14.
The governing body has admitted that the crowd control during RCB’s celebration in Bengaluru could have been far better, and now a formal plan is expected to be chalked out to avoid such tragedy.
With mounting pressure from fans and stakeholders, the BCCI is expected to implement structured rules for future IPL celebrations, putting fan safety at the top of the priority list.
BCCI plans strict norms for IPL victory celebrations
A BCCI source was quoted as saying by Sports Tak, “The need for formulation of norms for IPL victory celebration will be discussed during the meeting.”
While another board source was quoted as saying by ANI, “BCCI will call an apex council meeting on June 14 to discuss the IPL celebration and formulate new norms. The meeting could be held virtually.”
Recently, board Secretary Devjit Saikia made it clear that the board cannot ignore its responsibility when it comes to cricket-related gatherings as he strongly condemned the Bengaluru tragedy. He said that the board will issue proper guidelines to avoid such incidents in the future.
