On Friday, Shreyas Iyer became the 16th Indian batsman to score a century on Test debut during the ongoing Kanpur Test against New Zealand.
After play on Friday, the right-hander said that he was happy with how his innings panned out from Day 1. He revealed that he didn’t have a proper sleep thinking about his innings and the landmark three-digit figure.
“I was really happy with the way everything went right from day one. Couldn’t get good sleep last night. Especially when you are batting overnight, I thought I batted really well yesterday but had to still focus again today,” Shreyas Iyer said at the end of play on Day 2.
Sunil Gavaskar told me ‘don’t look too far ahead and just enjoy yourself’: Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer had received his debut Test cap from legendary India batsman Sunil Gavaskar. He recalled Gavaskar’s words and said that the commentator motivated him.
“He (Sunil Gavaskar) motivated me a lot while giving me the cap but the one thing he told me that stayed in my mind is, ‘don’t look too far ahead and just enjoy yourself’. I wasn’t able to sleep well at all, got up early at five today morning but when you make a century, it’s a wonderful feeling,” he said.
