Disney Star has secured the media Rights for Australia Cricket for Next 7 Seven Years Confirmed by Cricket Australia.
According to the CA, Disney Star has become a game-defining symbol in India, and the “magnitude of the association is a monument to the endurance of the rivalry and respect that exists between Australia and India.”
Previously Sony Sports Network has the Streaming Rights for Australia Cricket in India. Star has niw signed a new agreement with Cricket Australia and they will air Australia Cricket Matches. As well as Men’s Big Bash League and Women’s Big Bash League Matches in India from 2023.
They paid $280 Millions around 2236 Crores for the Media Rights for Next 7 years.
Disney Star recently paid a record-breaking amount of INR 23,575 crore for the TV broadcast rights to the Indian Premier League (IPL) after a competitive bidding process.
“We are delighted to announce this new association with Disney Star from season 2023-24 onwards,” the Chief Executive Officer of the CA, Nick Hockley, was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
“Disney Star is synonymous with the game in India. And also we look forward to working with them to showcase the outstanding cricket played in Australia every summer.
“The magnitude of this association is testament to the enduring rivalry. And respect that exists between Australian and Indian teams, the excitement and popularity of WBBL and BBL. And also the high regard of Australian cricket in India and global markets more broadly.”
The CA’s affiliation with Disney Star, however, comes at a time when they were having problems with their home broadcaster Seven
Channel Seven recently filed a lawsuit against the Australian board for multiple violations of the terms of the agreement.
“There was significant interest in our rights. And also we are very grateful to our current rights holder Sony for their partnership. That will continue throughout this season,” added the Cricket Australia CEO.
