The BCCI is looking to resume the Duleep Trophy and Irani Cup, and they are also looking for full Ranji trophy Season from the upcoming Domestic Season.
While the BCCI was forced to postpone the Ranji Trophy for the first time in 2020 owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Duleep Trophy and the Irani Cup have not been played for at least three seasons.
Board President Sourav Ganguly announced that a full domestic season will take place in 2022–23 during a meeting of the BCCI Apex Council on 21st July.
The Duleep Trophy which is likely to begin on September 8 and it will be the starting Tournament for the season and then they will host the Irani Cup from October 1-5.
The Duleep Trophy used to be a knockout competition involving five zones, but subsequently it changed to a round-robin style with the top two teams moving on to the final.
The current Ranji Trophy champions play the Rest of India team in the Irani Cup.
Also mentioned were the possibilities for hosting the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and the Ranji Trophy.
The Vijay Hazare Trophy (the ODI format) is likely to begin from November 12. While the Mushtaq Ali Trophy (the T20 format) may begin play as early as October 11.
The Ranji Trophy is likely to begin on December 13 and its knockout rounds will be begin on February 1.
There may be four groups of eight elite teams. And one group of six plate teams in the Ranji Trophy, according to one of the meeting’s configurations.
The Ranji Trophy makes the competition more intense. Because a team must play a minimum of 10 games in order to win.
According to BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, The Board would start offering a women’s U-16 division beginning with the next season.
