MS Dhoni, on Thursday (March 28), copped a nasty blow on his hand during the match between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The incident took place in the 17th over of the RCB innings when MS Dhoni was behind the stumps while Matheesha Pathirana was bowling to Rajat Patidar. After being hit for a six by the RCB skipper on the third ball of the over, Pathirana bowled a slower delivery and Patidar failed to score.
For the fifth ball of the over, the Sri Lanka pacer tried to outsmart Patidar with his trademark toe-crushing yorker. However, he could not deliver the ball on the right line. While the length of the delivery was alright, the line was not as Pathirana fired the ball down the leg side.
It was bowled at 146.4kph and MS Dhoni could not collect it cleanly. The ball hit him on the upper part of his palm and he looked in pain straight away. While the former India skipper does not really show any emotions on the field, he could not help but grimace in pain.
Fortunately for CSK, the blow was not serious as their former skipper did not have to leave the field. He put on his gloves quickly and the action resumed.

Earlier in the game, MS Dhoni pulled off a stunning stumping to send back the dangerous Phil Salt. The RCB opener had given his team a flying start by hitting a flurry of boundaries in the first few overs. However, before he could inflict more damage on CSK, MS Dhoni came up with a sharp piece of work behind the stumps to send him back for 32.
Meanwhile, RCB have posted a big total of 196/7 in the allotted 20 overs after being asked to bat first. Captain Rajat Patidar led his team from the front, scoring 51 runs off 32 balls. In reply, CSK are off to a shaky start.
At the time of writing this report, they were reeling at 17/2 in the fourth over. Josh Hazlewood gave RCB a solid start with the ball by dismissing Rahul Tripathi and Ruturaj Gaikwad in the second over.
