The Indian team’s preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 begins tomorrow as they welcome Afghanistan for a 3-match T20I series at home. The selectors have included Sanju Samson in the squad, something AB de Villiers is extremely happy to see as he has been a fan of Sanju for a long time.
Sanju Samson has found it difficult to become a permanent member of the Indian team, not only because of his inconsistent performances but also because of other players of the same position performing better than him. He made his debut for India back in 2015 through the T20 format before making his ODI debut 6 years later in 2021 against Sri Lanka.
Former South Africa batter AB de Villiers had claimed that he would enjoy himself on his first tour to the Rainbow Nation even before the ODI had started.
“It’s great to see him in the team. He will enjoy the South African wickets. He stands tall when he bats. There’s a bit of bounce and movement and all the batters will be tested. But someone like Sanju, I think, will do well. And he also gives you an option with the gloves.” – said De Villiers.
“Great To See Him Back In The Squad”- AB de Villiers Speaks About Sanju Samson
While discussing about the T20I series between Afghanistan and India, AB de Villiers was specifically delighted to see Sanju Samon back into the squad, a player he believes is an “incredible performer”.
“I have been a huge fan of Sanju Samson. I think he is a wonderful player. He has been an incredible performer for the Rajasthan Royals for many years. It is great to see him back in the squad.” – De Villiers concluded.
