England’s fast bowler, Ollie Robinson, anticipates a challenging tour of India, acknowledging the formidable task that lies ahead. The upcoming five-match Test series, scheduled from January to March next year, poses a unique challenge for the cricketer.
Robinson’s exposure to sub-continent conditions remains limited, having played only three Tests in Pakistan last year. Unfortunately, his campaign in the Ashes was cut short by a back spasm he endured during the third Test at Headingley in Leeds.
Reflecting on his Ashes experience, Robinson admitted it did not unfold as he had hoped due to a foot injury and some rustiness. Nevertheless, he remains optimistic, expressing his dedication to improving his skills and performance. In his column for Wisden, he shared,
“For me personally, it didn’t go exactly how I would have liked it to go – I came into the series with a foot injury and was a bit rusty. And then I had the back spasm at Headingley as well. I’ve got a big training block now trying to get even better.”
Throughout the Ashes 2023, Robinson showed promise with ten wickets in three matches, boasting an impressive economy rate of 2.76. His standout performance of 3/55 came during the opening Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
“I think this series has been another good learner about my skills and my body and I think India is going to be an even harder test. It’s about getting as fit and ready as I possibly can for that series. I just want to improve myself and be the best I can be between now and then,” added Robinson.
