India have been on the wrong end of knockout encounters of ICC events post their triumph in the 2013 Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni’s leadership. Earlier this month, Rohit Sharma’s men had the chance to end the jinx as they faced Australia in the World Test Championship final. However, they were hammered by the Pat Cummins-led side by 209 runs.
Legendary West Indian batter, Chris Gayle, however, opined that Virat Kohli has the ability to play one more World Cup after the 2023 edition of the tournament.
“Virat Kohli still has another World Cup in him. I don’t think this is going to be his last World Cup. I think he has another World Cup in him. India are favourites, they play at home as well. So it’s going to be very interesting. We want to see the team they’re actually going to select,” Gayle said in an interview with TimesofIndia.com.
“First of all the squad, they’re going to select because a lot of people are knocking on the door as well. India are always going to be a favourite at home as well. So, that’s something that carries the pressure over to the India team as well.”
“[Jasprit] Bumrah for sure. I’m sure he’s going to be back. And young man Surya [Suryakumar Yadav]. These two guys.”
